Coal Container Loading Project – Belt Conveyor + Container Tilter System
Project Overview
ZFITA provided an integrated belt conveyor and container tilter system for loading coal into shipping containers.
This project represents one of ZFITA’s core bulk material handling solutions: combining a continuous conveying system with a hydraulic container tilter to efficiently load bulk materials into containers.
The system has been operating for more than five years, with the equipment subjected to demanding operating conditions of over 12 hours of operation per day. Its long-term performance demonstrates the durability and reliability of the complete system under continuous industrial use.
Material: Coal
Equipment: Belt Conveyor + Container Tilter
Application: Bulk Coal Container Loading
Operating Time: More than 12 hours per day
Service Life: More than 5 years in operation
The Project Challenge
Coal loading requires equipment capable of handling continuous operation and demanding working conditions. The conveying system must provide stable material transfer, while the container tilter must repeatedly perform heavy-duty hydraulic lifting and tilting operations.
For this project, the equipment needed to meet several requirements:
Continuous and reliable bulk coal conveying
Stable loading into shipping containers
Long daily operating hours
High mechanical and hydraulic durability
Low maintenance requirements
Reliable operation over many years
The customer therefore required not only sufficient capacity, but also a system capable of maintaining stable performance under long-term, high-frequency operation.
ZFITA Integrated Loading Solution
ZFITA combined a belt conveyor system with a hydraulic container tilter to create a complete coal container loading solution.
The belt conveyor continuously transfers coal toward the container, while the container tilter positions the container at the required angle for efficient filling. The two systems work together as an integrated loading process, allowing bulk coal to be transferred into the container efficiently and with controlled material flow.
This combination is particularly suitable for bulk materials such as coal where continuous conveying and controlled container loading are required.
Rather than treating the conveyor and container tilter as two independent machines, ZFITA designs the mechanical structure, hydraulic system, electrical controls and conveying system as a coordinated solution.
Belt Conveyor Designed Around the Required Capacity
ZFITA can design and manufacture belt conveyors with different belt widths according to the required conveying capacity and site conditions.
Available belt widths can include:
650 mm · 800 mm · 914 mm · 1000 mm · 1200 mm · 1400 mm · 1600 mm
The 914 mm (36 in.) belt width corresponds to a commonly used CEMA conveyor width, providing compatibility with established conveyor design practices.
The conveyor configuration can also be adapted to the specific application.
Mobile and Adjustable Incline Conveyors
Where site flexibility is required, ZFITA can provide mobile belt conveyors with adjustable inclination, allowing the conveying and discharge position to be adapted to different loading conditions.
Standard Flat Belt Conveyors
For applications where the material can be conveyed effectively at a relatively moderate inclination, conventional flat belt conveyors provide a straightforward and reliable solution.
Chevron Belt Conveyors
For materials with higher flowability or when a steeper conveying angle is required, Chevron-pattern belts can be used.
The raised pattern on the belt increases the grip between the material and the belt surface, helping prevent material from sliding or flowing backward during inclined conveying.
High-Angle Corrugated Sidewall Belt Conveyors
For applications requiring very steep elevation, ZFITA can also design corrugated sidewall belt conveyors with high sidewalls.
Depending on the material and system configuration, high-angle conveying can reach up to 90°, allowing bulk material to be elevated within a very limited footprint.
This gives ZFITA flexibility to select the appropriate conveyor configuration according to the material, required capacity, conveying angle and available site space.
Heavy-Duty Container Tilter System
The second key component of this project is the ZFITA hydraulic container tilter.
Container tilting involves the coordinated operation of mechanical structures, hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic power units and electrical control systems. For heavy-duty applications, the reliability of the complete system depends on how these components are designed and integrated.
ZFITA’s container tilter systems are developed with particular attention to:
Mechanical Structure
Heavy-duty structural design provides the strength required for repeated container lifting and tilting operations.
Hydraulic System
Carefully matched hydraulic components provide controlled and smooth movement throughout the tilting cycle.
Electrical Control
The control system coordinates the hydraulic and mechanical functions to provide consistent operation.
Integrated Engineering
The mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems are designed as a complete system rather than as isolated components.
The result is a container tilter designed for smooth operation, low failure rates and reduced maintenance requirements.
Proven Performance After More Than Five Years
One of the most important aspects of this project is not simply the equipment specification, but its long-term operating record.
The coal loading system has been in operation for more than five years. During this period, the equipment has been used for more than 12 hours per day, placing significant demands on the conveyor, hydraulic system, structural components and control system.
The system has remained in good working condition through this extended period of operation.
For ZFITA, this project provides practical evidence of an important design principle:
Industrial bulk material handling equipment should be designed for long-term operation, not simply for initial installation.
Why Combine a Belt Conveyor with a Container Tilter?
The combination of a belt conveyor and container tilter provides a flexible approach to bulk material container loading.
The conveyor provides continuous material transfer, while the tilter provides controlled container positioning.
Together, they can provide:
Continuous bulk material feeding
Controlled container filling
Flexible conveyor configuration
Adaptability to different site layouts
Reduced manual handling
Efficient loading of bulk materials into containers
Long-term suitability for demanding operating conditions
This integrated approach is particularly valuable when the customer requires both high conveying capacity and reliable container loading within one coordinated system.
A Solution Built for Long-Term Industrial Operation
The successful operation of this coal loading project for more than five years demonstrates ZFITA’s ability to integrate conveying and container handling equipment into a reliable bulk material handling system.
From belt width and conveying angle to hydraulic control and mechanical structure, each part of the system can be engineered according to the customer’s material, capacity, operating hours and site conditions.
For customers handling coal and other bulk materials, ZFITA can provide not only individual machines, but also complete container loading solutions combining conveyors, container tilters and supporting equipment.
